John Deere debuts JD, an AI assistant over farm data

At the 2026 Farm Progress Show in Iowa, John Deere put a conversational AI on top of the field, machine and operational data its Operations Center has been collecting from farmers for more than a decade. The assistant, called JD, is meant to answer plain-language questions such as how fuel use compared season over season, how singulation performance moved yield, how many acres per hour a sprayer operator averaged, or when to start harvest, without a farmer clicking through dashboards. Bloomberg first reported the launch.

"JD changes the experience from navigating through a sea of data to simply asking it a question," said Jahmy Hindman, Deere's Chief Technology Officer, in remarks quoted by Oklahoma Farm Report. Deanna Kovar, president of Deere's Worldwide Ag & Turf Division, framed the pitch as one of custody: "farmers should control their data, clearly understand how it is used, and benefit from the insights it can create."

Which frontier model actually answers those questions is a detail Deere is not giving up. Melissa Neuendorf, Deere's principal product manager for Customer AI Solutions, told The Robot Report that the company is declining to name the underlying model, citing pace of innovation, and summed up the design goal as "Our job is to hide that complexity from them."

An early access program opens for US agriculture customers at the show; broader release on web, mobile and eventually an in-cab display is scheduled for later this year, and Operations Center itself stays free regardless of equipment brand or vintage. Deere says JD will eventually extend across turf, construction, roadbuilding and forestry customers, one more entry in the vertical AI assistant category we've been tracking but the first sitting on a decade of proprietary agronomic telemetry. Sonos made its own vertical push this week, opening home audio to ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude in its 27 update.
