Meta and Google Pour Billions Into 100-Hour Long-Duration Batteries to Power AI Data Centers

Bloomberg reports that Meta and Google are pouring billions into long-duration storage batteries capable of discharging for up to 100 hours, aiming to blunt the AI power crunch. Since early 2025 more than 150 GWh of US long-duration storage projects have been announced or financed, most tied to AI data-center demand, including Google's 300MW/30GWh Form Energy iron-air deal at a Minnesota site.
