Meta is letting go of the AI safety team it hired from startup Virtue AI four months after bringing them on in June, Semafor reported.

"Unfortunately, the arrangement didn't work out as planned," Meta spokesperson Andy Stone told the outlet, chalking the split up to clashing work styles.

The June group included Virtue AI co-founders Bo Li, Dawn Song, and Sanmi Koyejo, along with other staff who joined Meta's Superintelligence Labs. Virtue AI had previously worked with Anthropic, OpenAI, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology at the Commerce Department, and its tools span automated red teaming, runtime guardrails, and AI governance.

Stone said Meta Superintelligence Labs remains focused on AI safety, alignment, and frontier risk. The departing employees had not provided comment at the time of the report.
