Mistral Powers Firefox Smart Window Beta as Mozilla Extends AI Browser to France

Mozilla and Mistral announced Sept 16 that Firefox's Smart Window beta AI browsing assistant is now powered by Mistral models, rolling out in France (in French) after August's initial US/Canada launch, with UK and Germany expansions later in 2026. Mozilla says conversations are not retained on its servers by default and Mistral has agreed to zero data retention. Smart Window features answer-checking via an Exa partnership, tab grouping and duplicate detection, and a visual history search.
