Nvidia Jetson Orin Nano 2 doubles edge inference at 78 TOPS

Nvidia's next drone-and-robot brain will not ship until the first half of 2027. The Jetson Orin Nano 2, unveiled by Nvidia and covered by The Robot Report, packs 78 TOPS of AI compute, an eight-core Arm CPU and 8GB of memory into the same compact module as the current Orin Nano.

Nvidia's claim is that the new module doubles inference performance versus the Jetson Orin Nano Super, and that in 15-watt mode it draws 40% less power while matching the predecessor's peak performance. Target uses include smart drones, home cleaning robots, delivery drones and companion robots. The module supports on-device language and vision models including Nvidia Cosmos, Nemotron, Gemma 4 and Qwen 3.

"The Jetson Orin Nano 2 computer puts that breakthrough within reach of millions of developers, delivering the performance and energy efficiency needed for real-time reasoning in smart drones, robots, and vision AI systems," said Deepu Talla, Nvidia's VP of Robotics and Edge AI. Talla framed the pitch around a shift he sees in the model tier itself: "Today's small and medium frontier models have reached the accuracy of last year's largest frontier models, unlocking real time intelligence for edge devices."

Nvidia says more than 3 million developers are already building on its robotics stack. Pricing has not been disclosed. The reveal lands the same week we tracked a Ukrainian autonomous drone strike that used an earlier Jetson Orin module, and the same day Nvidia detailed its 88-core Vera CPU for the data center side of its roadmap.
