Nvidia Signs Eight Australian Operators for 2GW AI Buildout by 2027

Nvidia said it will work with eight Australian data center and cloud operators to build up to 2 gigawatts of DSX AI factory capacity across the country by 2027. The announcement from Nvidia frames the buildout as land, power and shell capacity 'designed to host multiple generations of NVIDIA DSX™ AI factories.'

The eight partners are Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN, Megaport, ResetData, CDC, NEXTDC and AirTrunk. Sharon AI is deploying up to 68,000 Nvidia GPUs on Quantum InfiniBand and Spectrum-X networking. IREN is developing an 800-megawatt Bundey campus in South Australia. CDC founder and CEO Greg Boorer said the operator is adding another 800 megawatts under construction on top of the 550-plus megawatts it already runs across Australia and New Zealand, with facilities that 'use 100% renewable electricity and incorporate pioneering zero water technologies.'

'AI factories turn energy into intelligence,' said Raj Mirpuri, an Nvidia VP.

Launch customers include Atlassian, whose head of engineering for Rovo + AI, Guihong Cao, said Nvidia's accelerated computing 'is foundational to how Atlassian builds AI,' and Heidi, which is running Nvidia's Nemotron 3 Ultra for voice-driven healthcare AI. Sharon AI cofounder and CEO James Manning said 'Australia has the energy, connectivity and ambition to lead in AI.'

The Australian push extends a run of Nvidia infrastructure moves we have been tracking: the company recently signed OpenAI to a multi-year compute deal via the same Firmus operator for two Malaysia data centers. Firmus cofounder and co-CEO Oliver Curtis called Project Southgate 'a tangible commitment to building Australia's AI future.'
