OpenAI is pushing ChatGPT away from the wall of text. On Wednesday the company began rolling out what it calls 'Intelligent UI' alongside a new GPT-6 model, TechCrunch reported, with Pro, Plus, Business and Enterprise users receiving immediate access and free and Go-tier users getting it Thursday, globally.
The interface weaves tappable buttons, customized calculators, interactive charts and editable graphs into replies, rather than returning only prose.
'ChatGPT has predominantly been a text-based interface,' Aarush Selvan, a product manager at OpenAI, told TechCrunch, saying the company wants to help users 'get things done … the most helpful answers aren't just text.' Selvan's demo had the chatbot 'explore how an airplane wing generates lift,' spinning up diagrams on the fly; other examples OpenAI showed include bicycle mechanics, multi-day hiking excursion maps and a personal savings calculator.
Users who do not want the volume of visuals can turn them down.
The release lands the same day OpenAI published its first teen-use report, one piece of a heavy week for the company in our tracker.
