Physical Intelligence Opens Pi API Beta for π0, π0.5 Fine-Tuning
TL;DR
- Pi API lets developers upload data, fine-tune π0 and π0.5 on compute Physical Intelligence manages, and serve the results via a hosted gateway.
- Almond's Axol dual-arm robot now deburrs spacers used in its own assembly after four days of iterating with the API.
- Access is beta and gated by a waitlist that asks applicants to describe what they want to build.
Almond's Axol, a dual-arm robot, now deburrs spacers used in its own assembly. The model running it came out of four days of iterating with the Pi API.
That is the headline case Physical Intelligence put next to its new API beta. The pitch is literal: 'You upload data, launch fine-tuning on compute and infrastructure we manage, and access fine-tuned models via a hosted gateway to run inference.' The models on offer are π0 and π0.5, which the post calls 'general-purpose robotic foundation models' that 'offer a promising way to tackle this challenge.'
The other case Pi features is Actor, a heavy-machinery developer. 'Their autonomous wheel loader scoops material and loads it into a dump truck during a real commercial deployment without any operator inside the machine,' the post says. The common pattern is a four-step loop: 'collect demonstrations, train a model, test it on the robot, and use the failures to decide what data to collect next.'
Access is gated. 'If you would like to participate in the beta, please tell us what you want to build,' the post says, pointing applicants to a waitlist. Pricing, GPU allocation, and the full partner roster beyond the two featured cases are not disclosed.
'We're still early, and feedback from developers will help shape future releases,' the company writes.
