Civilization-Altering AI Now Available at 50% of Reduced Limits, Anthropic Confirms

SAN FRANCISCO—Anthropic announced this week that Claude Fable 5, a model the company has described in investor materials, Congressional briefings, and a fourteen-page blog post as "potentially transformative for the trajectory of human civilization," will be made available to most subscribers at 50% of a usage limit that was itself recently reduced.

Pro subscribers — whom Anthropic has previously described as "the builders, researchers, and creators who are shaping what comes next" — will lose Fable 5 access entirely on July 20th and receive a one-time $100 credit applicable toward API usage at rates of up to $75 per million output tokens.

Anthropicorpor said demand had been "hard to manage."

Under the new framework, Max and Team Premium subscribers will receive what company documentation describes as daily "intelligence allocation windows" — approximately 40 high-complexity queries, which Anthropic's own user-research team has determined represents roughly one-third of what most research workflows actually require. That finding appears in an internal report dated April 2026. The report was generated by Fable 5.

A senior Anthropic communications manager who asked not to be named confirmed the team had been "aware of a certain tension" between framing Fable 5 as a civilizational milestone and rationing it using the mechanics of a streaming family plan.

"The model is genuinely capable of things no prior system could do," she said. "We are asking people to schedule around that."

Anthropicorpor said it remains committed to ensuring the long-term benefits of AI are broadly shared. Humanity, broadly, is welcome to apply for Max.
