Google's statement that it includes a watermark that can identify them as AI-generated is completely braindead as to how disinformation works. You think people spending literally three seconds to derail a discussion give a shit about that? This is so easy to abuse www.404media…

Google Earth’s New AI Lets Anyone Fabricate Completely Bullshit Satellite Images 404media.co
AI Weekly's analysis
  • Google launched an AI image feature in Google Earth on Thursday and pulled it within a day after 404 Media showed fabricated scenes.
  • The tool used Nano Banana 2 to render text prompts onto real satellite data, generating fake bomb craters, nuclear sites, and protests.
  • Named experts including Henk Van Ess and Ross Burley warned the launch could erode decades of built-up trust in Google Earth imagery.

"When we hear AI, we shouldn’t fall for the AI peddlers’ narratives of productivity explosions and mass unemployment. We should think of Taylorism, of the myriad ways in which capital centralizes knowledge, measures people, and carves up work in order to maximize its control a…

NEW: A PR firm used at least 15 fake personas — equipped with fake emails, fake websites, and in some cases, fake AI-generated faces — to send me dozens of pitch emails about its (very real) clients. Those clients told me they had no idea this was happening. futurism.com/artif…

We Are Alarmed by This PR Firm Using a Small Army of Fake AI-Powered Publicists to Barrage Journalists With Pitches for Its Clients futurism.com
AI Weekly's analysis

Recent commentary

scott weiner made a chatbot portraying connie chan, and now the chatbot is saying labor unions are "peak obstructionist labor dynamics", which are pretty scandalous words to put into the mouth of a progressive candidate, but i'm not a lawyer, so i'm not sure if it's actually libelous or simply crazy

whenever someone tells me what a chatbot said i feel myself die a little bit on a number of levels all at once

last week we saw policies regarding AI from arxiv & from berkeley law school - both substantially limiting reckless use of AI (with different goals, methods, etc). i'm curious if anyone here is aware of other recent-ish new policies on AI use in workplaces or related settings. (let's say in 2026)

apartment-searching in 2026 is bad. i've become grateful for clumsy photoshop jobs that layer generic png assets over crappy jpegs. better than ai-generated garbage that violates euclidean geometry, to say nothing of strains credulity that this place would exist in the city in question.

i feel like if i was an admin at a university trying to advance the use of AI, i would try really really hard to make sure that all of my work was unassailable, even if it meant hiring an extraordinary team of editors & fact checkers that would be impossible for other university employees to employ.

i just saw the openAI merch store photos and i think it's really funny to wear a shirt that says "research" made by a tech company whose most famous product is basically best-known for validating every stray thought you type into the text box lol
