(seemingly) everyone loves to dunk on AI-generated slop and condemn those responsible in no uncertain terms on here. yet people keep reposting pure falsehoods, baseless speculations, intentionally misleading takes to my timeline. we should try posturing less and reflecting more sometime.

ai-generated, cartoonishly cute-ified images of animals depress me. animals are already amazing and they deserve our respect and their dignity. we also need to nurture our ability to appreciate beauty and feel awe. what an exceptionally contemptuous way to generate clout.

I truly don't get the point of peer reviewers using AI to review a paper. If the authors need generic comments or simple error checks, they can use AI themselves. If the journal/editor needs it, they can do the same. What is the point of asking a peer reviewer to ask AI? Setting all other objections

The sentiment in the classroom wrt AI has changed drastically since last spring. Suddenly, extreme enthusiasm is replaced with skepticism, distrust, need for clear guidance. Have we passed the peak of the hype cycle? Is that it? Students are smart(er than uni admin)! They care abt the right things.

it kinda weirds me out how academics fully embraced and endorsed the exceptionally boring and repetitive 'betterposter' format a few years back but complain about ai use in academic presentations today. many of the current criticisms would have applied there as well.

with apologies to the amazing matthew rhys, every time i come across a photo of anthropic's ceo on my tl, i keep wondering what show that still is from. i guess if ever there's an anthropic movie, i know who should play amodei (though the role might not give rhys much of a creative inspiration).
