“Consent is really important,” Broussard tells WIRED. “We can connect that to the way that women, queer people, people of color, and minorities get exploited and abused online. Tech companies have never really been sensitive to issues of consent.” www.wired.com/story/the-ai...

The AI Slop Backlash Is Actually Having an Impact wired.com
AI Weekly's analysis
  • WIRED argues the anti-slop backlash is producing real platform changes rather than just complaint threads, with tools and policies to flag AI content spreading.
  • Substack, YouTube and Pinterest have all added detection, labels or user controls, with Substack partnering with the detection firm Pangram.
  • Merriam-Webster and the Macquarie Dictionary named 'slop' word of the year, and one anti-slop Facebook group has nearly 250,000 members.

We fucking told you so. We told you and told you and told you. "AI" as an industry has to earn $2 trillion in revenue per year from now to 2029 in order for investments merely to break even. That's simply impossible. www.theverge.com/ai-artificia...

AI Weekly's analysis
  • Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google are simultaneously deploying rate limits, paywalls, and price hikes in 2026, ending subsidized AI access.
  • Anthropic's June 15 print-mode repricing, OpenAI's guaranteed-capacity tier, and Google AI Ultra are concrete signals of the industry-wide monetization shift.
  • Labs spent years using investor capital to subsidize access and build user habits; the payback phase has now arrived across the industry.

The Homogenizing Effect of Large Language Models on Human Expression and Thought arxiv.org
AI Weekly's analysis
  • A new arxiv synthesis argues that ubiquitous LLM use risks standardizing human language and reasoning across users and contexts.
  • The paper identifies two mechanisms: models mirror dominant patterns in their training data, and users converge on the same models across contexts.
  • Authors warn unchecked homogenization could flatten the cognitive landscapes that drive collective intelligence and adaptability.

Recent commentary

We have entered the era of advertisers shitting on AI. I just saw a commercial for Legal Zoom where two folks are trying to set up their will and one of them suggests Legal Zoom, and the other says "we'll just have AI do it." Turns out the AI forgot their 401k, which the human at Legal Zoom caught.

Forever angry that there are some useful non -AI tools that have rebranded as AI for sweet, sweet clout.

I’m reminded in this moment of AI that early mapping programs used to tell people to drive through fucking buildings as the most optimal route to a destination. They fixed that real quick, but folks clearly learned fuck all from the event.

Something that irks me is that if I convert a scanned text into ocr, which makes it searchable, this enables Adobe's AI slop to use its summarize feature on the text. This irks me because I make sure all my course texts are OCR'd for accessibility reasons.

In Valen’s name, the fact that predictive text and autocorrect both try to correct “fucking” to “ducking” and choose to ignore fek”ihr, Grethor, and Khaless tells you everything you need to know about AI, even in its most simple form, as a disciplinary tool.
