TL;DR

  • China's internet regulator approved the Qwen arrangement in July; Apple's own models remain uncleared, forcing model substitution rather than a simple API wrapper.
  • The rebuilt Siri AI from WWDC 2026 is excluded from the China rollout, creating a two-tier product split across Apple's global iPhone base.
  • Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu framed the deal as Qwen integrating into Apple's ecosystem, positioning it as a domestic AI platform win.

"Users can tap its Qwen model inside Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence, for example to ask about a photo or a PDF," écrit The Next Web.

L'absence pèse autant que la présence. "The launch leaves out Siri AI, the rebuilt assistant Apple showed at WWDC 2026," précise le même article.

Apple précise que "the initial rollout will be exclusive to the iPhone, with support for other platforms coming only after the necessary regulatory approvals have been obtained."
