ChatGPT envoie des utilisateurs à 404 Media comme support tech

Un internaute russe dont le compte Instagram a été banni a écrit à Jason Koebler, cofondateur de 404 Media, pour qu'il enquête sur son cas. Il n'avait pas trouvé l'adresse seul: ChatGPT lui avait suggéré le journaliste, puis rédigé le mail en anglais à sa place.

« I have now lost access to 13 years of personal photos, videos and memories », disait le message, avant de demander: « Would you be interested in investigating my case and requesting an explanation from Meta? » Le chatbot avait classé l'outlet par thématique dans le brouillon: « 404 Media Focus: Technology, digital platforms, surveillance, privacy, and technology-related investigations. »

L'affaire n'est pas isolée. Dans son article du 26 octobre, Koebler écrit: « Around two weeks ago, we started emailing these people back and asking them how they found us. » Réponse systématique: un chatbot. Parmi les expéditeurs, un peintre italien attaquant Meta avec un « nine-screenshot evidence dossier prepared on 16 October 2026 », et un client Verizon réclamant une enquête indépendante sur sa ligne mobile défaillante.

Koebler résume le mécanisme: « Because big tech platforms essentially do not have customer support and make it impossible for their users to contact a human, many people experiencing run-of-the-mill tech problems have turned to ChatGPT. And, increasingly, ChatGPT is telling people that have normal tech support problems that they have discovered something journalistically notable and that 404 Media, specifically, can help them. »

Le cas rejoint la série d'hallucinations ChatGPT que l'on documente depuis l'été, mais la nature est différente ici: le modèle n'invente pas un fait, il invente un recours, et redirige la charge vers une petite rédaction indépendante.
