Since September I've been working with an international group to develop what we hope can be a response from the mathematics community to artificial intelligence in maths. The Leiden Declaration is now posted and open for signatures: https://leidendeclaration.ai/ #LeidenDeclar…

AI Weekly's analysis
  • The Leiden Declaration, released June 2, 2026, warns AI threatens proof integrity, attribution, and peer review in mathematics.

Microsoft is planning to build three massive AI data centres in Leeds. It’ll drain thousands of litres of water from the River Aire and become the city's biggest carbon emitter. We can still stop the council's sign-off, but we need more voices. Add your name: you.38degrees.org…

“If we just accept that AI dominance is inevitable & all we can do is “educate” people, we’ve already given up the game. These technologies are built on a series of choices made mostly by very wealthy white men. We can make different choices.” - @evangreer.bsky.social rabble.c…

Recent commentary

I know we’re all on board with this but I’ve had a good morning of writing and writing is thinking, kids, don’t offload this to AI. I’ve drafted a bunch of text that I’m pretty sure I’m going to delete and replace tomorrow but I know what I’ll replace it with *because* I spent the time writing it

I’ve just spent 2 hours making a sexy-ass Excel spreadsheet for some data. Why would I ever hand that kind of fun over to AI?

Our latest ethics system has a question in it about environmental impact of the research. Someone submitted a study using an AI tool and checked ‘no impact’ and my colleague bounced it back to them for revision Got me thinking - IS it ethical to study AI tool use cases? 🤔

I finished @anilseth.bsky.social’s Being You. Turns out that luckily, all perception is some sort of controlled hallucination, so the solution to all the problems of cognition and consciousness is to hallucinate just right, which, luckily, we mostly do! So it all worked out in the end :)

Just played a level of a game I play with my daughter and luckily it was just me today because I got an ad for an AI chatbot getting fucked and slapped and asking me what I wanted to do to it. I hate the future so much sometimes
