Finally making my way through the UNEP report and surprise! It pisses me off. I'm so fucking sick of people telling us all these ideas that are terrible for humanity are "inevitable." Overshoot, AI, CCS/CDR...we could just as easily decide that energy transition and socialism are "inevitable"
Don't want to be a buzz kill and I love a good "we stopped a data center" as much as the next guy, but I fully expect there to be AI "sacrifice zones" just as there have been for oil, chemicals, etc and stopping this shit shouldn't rely solely on communities having the energy, time, money to protest
I think the thing that bothers me most about AI on just a personal day-to-day level is the fake empathy. Any time I get a note from a stranger that's like really detailed about what they like about something I've created, for a brief moment I'm like wow, nice! And then I go ohhhh shit it's AI.
