Anyone here read anything interesting about AI development and the subfield of Artificial Life? On X, some are arguing that the Pope is wrong and AI is conscious. The discourse on GenAI is veering back to a time of “Tierra” and other silicon simulated worlds in the 1990s

Today, I feel like Chicken Little. I've read so much about the flaws in LLMs that I can't see a single use case for academic research. Lying is a feature, not a bug, of LLMs. "Hallucinations" can not be designed away. It's a fundamental problem in the design without any possible fix.

I was just thinking about how the already existing massive wealth inequalities will be exacerbated by AI. It doesn’t take a sociologist to know that if you collapse labor, it will mean less resources for the state, thus actually enabling a technocoup. Tax the bots. Limit maximum wealth.

Organizing against data centers is practice for fighting against the technocracy. Technofascists do not believe in political parties, only opportunities. Superpacs by Meta, Palantir, OpenAI etc aim to elect any politician pledging more data centers. No right wing. No left flank. Just chuds.

The stakes of AI are hard to understand. Internet infrastructure is like Swiss cheese. It’s riddled with holes that would take humans time to exploit, but with agentic AI, the capacity to hack is exponentially increased, circumventing security in all networked systems. Banks will fall.

Woke Pope is sponsored by Anthropic. What we have here is a battle of the institutions, where Palantir & OpenAI partnered with the US Gov are battling the Catholic Church, Anthropic and the EU. European AI will be different from American slop soon. But none of this stops AI from LYING.

“AI” as a sector is not a zero sum game. It’s a weapon of war and a commercial gadget. I say, “gadget” because it’s fundamentally a toy, a novelty, but with some practical uses. As a commercial product, it has aspirations of becoming an appliance as ubiquitous as a stove or telephone.

Welp, there is now a good business opportunity for those who have certain skills to commit to only creating AI-free products. This means graphic designers, web developers, journalists, researchers, lawyers, and consultants… Take note! If your lawyer or doctor uses AI, run.

I wonder if Musk would have bought Twitter if his relationship with OpenAI remained a partnership? Buying Twitter, with its decade of legacy data and large user base, was the best tool available to counter OpenAI.
