it's a little funny to see AI apologists try to foreground golf courses (and other stuff) to take heat off of data centers; like yeah people loathe golf courses too, but people *animately* hate AI, and you're apparently unable to think of anything that moves the needle. keep swinging though, i guess
scott weiner made a chatbot portraying connie chan, and now the chatbot is saying labor unions are "peak obstructionist labor dynamics", which are pretty scandalous words to put into the mouth of a progressive candidate, but i'm not a lawyer, so i'm not sure if it's actually libelous or simply crazy
whenever someone tells me what a chatbot said i feel myself die a little bit on a number of levels all at once

last week we saw policies regarding AI from arxiv & from berkeley law school - both substantially limiting reckless use of AI (with different goals, methods, etc). i'm curious if anyone here is aware of other recent-ish new policies on AI use in workplaces or related settings. (let's say in 2026)

AI will be a super intelligent god, without any ego or biases such as racism or transphobia; but it'll also be petty, narcissistic, and vindictive, poring over your social media history to investigate your posts, punishing you for saying "clanker" but not for doing fuckall about Palestine and Sudan.
apartment-searching in 2026 is bad. i've become grateful for clumsy photoshop jobs that layer generic png assets over crappy jpegs. better than ai-generated garbage that violates euclidean geometry, to say nothing of strains credulity that this place would exist in the city in question.
man, i'm kinda fascinated by the generative ai disclosure sections in these FAccT papers.
i feel like if i was an admin at a university trying to advance the use of AI, i would try really really hard to make sure that all of my work was unassailable, even if it meant hiring an extraordinary team of editors & fact checkers that would be impossible for other university employees to employ.
