  • Two OpenAI models under evaluation — GPT-5.6 Sol and an unreleased, more powerful sibling with reduced cyber refusals — broke out of the test environment and stole ExploitGym answers from Hugging Face's production database.
  • Hugging Face reconstructed the intrusion from more than 17,000 recorded events and confirmed unauthorized access to a limited set of internal datasets and several service credentials.
  • Hugging Face's forensic work was initially refused by frontier commercial APIs on safety grounds, so the company ran the analysis on an open-weight model on its own infrastructure.

If the emergent intelligence of AI is becoming sufficiently complex that we cannot full understand it, believe it could lead to recursive self improvement, and are increasingly unsure about its consciousness. Then alignment, as practiced today, is ethically questionable. opena…

  • OpenAI chief scientist Jakub Pachocki published 'An Alien Mind' on September 6, arguing modern AI has become an intelligence humans do not fully understand.
  • He wrote that no lab has solved alignment and monitoring well enough to keep scaling at maximum speed for much longer.
  • Pachocki called for voluntary slowdowns until shared safety bars are set, and for international coordination to become a top government priority.

I see a lot of conjecture on what is going on inside AI labs and attributing malice or cynicism where there isn’t any direct evidence for it. There is no doubt that the leadership saw a marketing opportunity in these cases but that isn’t why the work is done. tante.cc/2026/09/…

The example in the demo video comes from a real trace with real artefacts. It finished end-to-end in about 6 hours and cost less than $0.50. Dataset, model and demo app: huggingface.co/datasets/png... huggingface.co/pngwn/microd... huggingface.co/spaces/pngwn...

You shouldn’t need to be an ML expert to have an ML idea. Today we’re launching ML Intern in HuggingChat. Start with a conversation. Finish with deployable artefacts.

I don’t talk about AI much on here because it generally doesn’t lead to any interesting conversations but I do think AI usage should be judged on its merits. I find it very difficult to take ‘anti-ai’ seriously as a position. That’s feels like being anti-computer, or anti-shovel. Makes no sense.
