Meta Ships Mac App for Meta AI With Ads and Workspace Hooks
TL;DR
- Meta released a dedicated Mac app for Meta AI on August 19 with connectors to Instagram, Facebook, Meta ad campaigns and Google Workspace.
- Two Mac-only tricks: attach a window to the chat so Meta AI reads the screen, and a system-wide dictation shortcut across apps.
- The app is free, but Meta has been introducing rate limits that steer heavier usage toward a paid Meta One subscription.
Meta released a dedicated Mac app for its assistant on August 19, and the interesting piece is not the desktop wrapper but what it plugs into. Users with professional Facebook and Instagram accounts can wire Meta AI to their Meta ad campaigns and to Google Workspace, pulling in Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Slides alongside the platform's own engagement data, Axios reported.
"You can ask Meta AI questions about your business and get answers drawn from the context only Meta has, like your account engagement and ad performance," the company said.
Two of the features are Mac-only. A user can attach a window to a conversation and Meta AI reads what is visible to answer questions, suggest edits or draft content. A system-wide dictation shortcut lets the user speak into whatever app is open. The same connector set is rolling to the mobile app and the Meta AI website.
The pitch is aimed at creators and small shops that already live inside Meta's surfaces. Small Business Trends collected testimonials from early users, including Katey H., CEO of Nocturnal Skincare: "You'd be surprised how much time gets lost just getting AI tools ramped up on your business – downloading, converting, re-uploading." Meta AI can also produce recurring reports rather than one-off analyses.
The app is free. Meta has been introducing rate limits on its heavier AI features and steering higher use toward its Meta One subscription.
