ActiveCampaign vs Brevo: Compare One Customer Email Workflow
Choose between ActiveCampaign and Brevo using event data, branching, suppression and a realistic lifecycle-email cost model.
In this guide
ActiveCampaign and Brevo both deserve evaluation when customer communication depends on events and conditions. The useful comparison is whether each can run your actual sequence with understandable rules and reliable data. A list of AI writing features does not answer that question.
Write the sequence before opening a trial
Use a fictional onboarding flow: a new customer receives setup guidance, a completed customer exits reminders and a customer waiting for support pauses the generic sequence. Define the source of each event, which messages are appropriate and how the contact leaves the workflow.
ActiveCampaign's marketing-automation documentation describes conditional paths; Brevo's automation documentation organizes work around triggers, actions and rules. Those are starting points for a trial, not evidence that your required integration or plan already supports every condition.
| Question | Evidence to collect in both trials |
|---|---|
| Can product events drive the sequence? | A real test event and its contact match, including a missing identifier |
| Will completed users stop receiving reminders? | An exit test immediately before a scheduled message |
| Can an operator explain a skipped message? | The visible condition or suppression responsible |
| What happens on duplicate events? | No repeated welcome or restarted completed sequence |
| What does the plan actually cost? | Your contact, send, channel and feature requirements priced together |
Compare the hard cases
Create fictional contacts for new, completed, unsubscribed, support-paused and duplicated states. Use internal test addresses. A successful demo is not just the new customer receiving an attractive email; it is also the other contacts not receiving inappropriate messages.
Ask a colleague to change a delay, inspect why one contact stopped and reverse an accidental rule change. A platform that only the original builder understands can become an expensive dependency.
Keep AI copy separate from eligibility
Use AI to propose clearer wording from approved instructions. Do not let a generated interpretation decide whether a contact has completed setup or should receive a promotional message. Those decisions need explicit, reviewable source data. Both the message and the routing deserve their own tests.
Choose by fit and migration cost
There is no universal winner from this documentation review. Choose the product that passes your sequence tests with the least ongoing effort at an acceptable current price. If both pass, compare the team's editing experience, required integrations and the cost of moving historical contact state.
Keep your existing sender if the sequence works there adequately. Read the individual ActiveCampaign and Brevo assessments for the proposed pilots. We have not run deliverability or conversion experiments comparing the two services.
