Anthropic Merges Claude Chat and Cowork Memory, On by Default for Free, Pro and Max Tiers
Summary
Anthropic on August 25 unified the memory systems used by Claude chat and Claude Cowork, so anything Claude learns in one surface carries over to the other unless users opt out. The feature ships on by default for Free, Pro and Max plans across web, desktop and mobile; enterprise admins can disable it, and Claude now appends topics to memory continuously during a chat rather than only at session end. By default Claude will not store sensitive categories like health data, race, politics or gender identity, and permanently blocks storing government IDs, SSNs, criminal history and immigration status.
