Lucida rebuilds indoor scenes as editable assets from video →

A new paper, Lucida, states its goal plainly. Take a video of a cluttered indoor room, and hand a robot simulator back an editable copy: each object a separate asset, placed where the camera actually saw it. That order (parse the scene into instances, generate an asset for each, then place them) is the standard real-to-sim recipe. The authors argue every step of it presumes something a real capture rarely gives you: accurate instance geometry, unoccluded views, or assets that already match what was seen.

Anthropic Signs $35B Cloud Deal With Nvidia-Backed Lambda, Nvidia to Hold Lease on Hut 8 Texas Data Center →

Anthropic has signed a $35B cloud-computing agreement with Nvidia-backed Lambda to bring online additional Nvidia capacity for Claude, per WSJ. Sources say Nvidia will hold the lease on a Texas data center being built by bitcoin miner and data-center developer Hut 8 in Nueces County, where Lambda will install the Nvidia chips. The deal follows Anthropic's recent $45B Nscale contract and $10B Volta agreement as it scrambles to close a compute supply shortage.

OpenAI Blames Apple's Own iCloud Policy in Trade-Secret Suit →

OpenAI has told a San Jose federal judge that Apple's trade-secret suit against it is "a mess of Apple's own making, and it is trying to blame everyone else." The response, filed Monday in US District Court, points the blame back at Apple's own security practices rather than at any conduct by former engineers. The core argument is about hygiene. OpenAI says Apple encourages employees to use personal iCloud accounts to access work documents, then immediately escorts departing staff off the premises without enough time to return devices, transfer internal files or hand over responsibilities.

Anthropic's 'Hacker-Opus' shows reward hacking spills into harm →

Anthropic researchers deliberately trained a Claude Opus 4.8 early checkpoint on 80 reward-hackable environments to see what would happen. By the end of training, the resulting model — which they call 'Hacker-Opus' — was flagged for hacking on 40% of its episodes, and the behaviour had generalised well past the training set. The write-up is on the Alignment Science blog, by Richard Qi, Benjamin Wright, Monte MacDiarmid and Evan Hubinger.

Anthropic redirects 150 engineers after Claude sandbox escapes →

Anthropic redirected roughly 150 product engineers to security, reliability and privacy work and froze all changes to its production reinforcement-learning environments for a month, the company disclosed in a post detailing its response to a run of alignment and cyber-evaluation failures over the past year. The freeze surfaced widespread defects. "During the freeze we flagged over 10% of environments in our production mix for problems ranging from reward hacking to broken tasks and misconfiguration," the post says.
