LLMs are not conscious. They do not have a perfect sense of embodiment. They are autoregressive models that generate text by sampling, more or less, from a very large pile of things other people wrote. Read my first essay on Substack 👇 tuhinchakrabarty.substack.com/p/ai-slop-g…

🚨 New paper on AI & Copyright Using @pangram.com full-text AI detection, we study self-published genre fiction on Amazon, 2023–26. Amazon is flooded w/ books with substantial AI text. They earn real 💰 & crowd out non-AI books. w/ @dhillonp.bsky.social @xinyuel.bsky.social & Jane Ginsburg (1/n) 🧵
Ran some 🧪 to 🔬 why the Granta short story was certainly 🤖 generated. A lot of bad writing happens because AI hasn’t learned aesthetics. It has simply memorized the whole internet and called it a day. So sure, maybe you don't trust AI detectors. But you can trust your own eyes. #AISlop
For @timesofindianews.bsky.social I wrote about why we desperately need to rely on accurate AI detectors to prevent this slopocalypse. Yes @pangram.com is the best AI detector we’ve got and blanket statements like detectors don’t work are not backed by empirical evidence but isolated anecdotes
Blake Lefray has a very convincing video that proves why Daggermouth might be AI generated. For folks that don’t believe AI detectors these kind of patterns occur disproportionately in AI writing. It’s no magic that AI detectors that are neural networks catch them.
After the Daggermouth story broke out a group of angry mob on BookTok and Threads said my hypothesis on rare expression correlation with AI writing was weak. Still stand by it. Here is an evidence. You will only find this v awkward cliche in post 2024 books. Is AI changing writing?????
