The AI discourse pisses me SPECIFICALLY of because - it is allowing the actions of the worst people to grant a technology intentions and agency it does not have - via racist anti human “principles” that are not true - to mistake projection for understanding
“AI” won Not the technology but the Ivertone window of everyone not even noticing how we don’t talk about humans anymore We aren’t talking g about rights people deserve , we aren’t discussing environment, or arts in the future Just how best to “manage” the AI
The scariest thing we could do right now is work on assuring that people are secure and don’t need AI to survive It is exactly why that’s the conversation NOT being had
Everybody is having an AI convo , which teh AI boys love Because it means nobody is thinking about what humans need to thrive So no our metric is The AI thriving not the humans
Spending a lot of time doing trust and safety means you ( should ) spend time thinking about high control systems recognizing how they affect self care we’re arguing about lies around AI while our elder statesmen are saying nothing about a complete deevolution of our diplomatic ties
Generative AI says “oh this code can make this thing” When a lot of the art it’s hovering up to define as “success” Is actually the ever continuous process of failure of mission but success of process That the “art” is an accepted failure on the way to something else
My other annoyance is I’m an “AI skeptic” And I hate with a passion how they’ve co-opted lingo the first thing I’d pull on Bluesky is their linguistic ban list Which I know they call “Blacklist” to edgey And make them sprint a white list for feature design creation But they won’t
“AI” the discourse constantly projects interiority into algorithms that only does because the only interiority we accept is those of white men and their aspirants Even when we know that not to be true BIO CHEMICALLY
The only thing I want more than to punch the PR that is organizing the AI doomsday in the mouth? Is to ask them how the knew to bet on racism and complacency so much they wagged not teh dog but the entire government
