I do not fear the rise of artificial intelligence. But I do fear the rise of a small set of billionaires and companies who seek to build such things to increase their power and their wealth, all without transparency or accountability.

Why do I host all my git repos locally? Because I don’t want an AI scraping my work.

In the fullness of time, LLMs will eventually become commodities and their price will be a race to the bottom.

It is simultaneously strange and humbling to realize that the term “artificial intelligence” was coined almost a decade before the term “software engineering”.

Contemporary artificial intelligence is to cognition as artificial sweeteners are to good nutrition: full of misleading hype, distracting, and when misunderstood and misused, dangerous to one's well-being.

I find the acceptance and defense of mediocrity to be deeply depressing. This is true not just in the context of large language models, but particularly in the case of certain scholars and politicians.

AGI has, in fact, not arrived. Unless perhaps you mean we have reached peak Authentic Granular Ignorance.

I already have two books I need to finish writing AND a documentary to produce but if I had the time and space, the book I'd want to write next is "AI Design Patterns".

There is clear and present evidence that all agentic systems of a certain complexity may yield erratic and undesirable behavior. Consider, for example, the election of our current president.

I think it would be appropriate to call it not the next AI Winter but rather the Great Descent.
