I appreciate that the letter, signed by 29 of 51 city council members, called for ongoing "'education on the multiple risks in employing the technology’”, an approach that reinforces teaching about and against AI technologies before (if ever) teaching with them.
This analysis from @bcmerchant.bsky.social on "Anthropic’s Mythos stunt” and "Its sheer cynicism, rank opportunism, and, yes, its ultimate effectiveness” is the kind of critical AI literacy that I’d like to see taught in schools.
I think education researchers considering applying for these funds must be clear-eyed about Anthropic and the company's decision to partner with Elon Musk's xAI for its compute power at Colossus 1, the same Colossus 1 that's deepening environmental racism by poisoning the air …
