Uber’s COO has said that it’s getting “harder to justify” its AI costs because there was no way to show a link between AI spend and any meaningful increase in useful features. This is the first time I’ve seen a company say this directly. www.businessinsider.com/uber-coo-and...

I wrote a comprehensive piece on this thing that won’t happen as long as OpenAI becomes one of the largest and most profitable companies in the world by 2030. Boosters will tell you this will happen! www.wheresyoured.at/how-openai-k...

Today’s premium newsletter is part 1 of my "What If...We're In An AI Bubble?" series, covering the scenarios that could burst the bubble - starting with token-based billing's destruction of most AI products, and the slow collapse of data center construction. www.wheresyoured.a…

the “good” news from this story is that OpenAI has 55 million paying subs, but that also includes ChatGPT Go ($5 or $8 a month, ad supported) and if it does, it is likely inflated by the fact that OpenAI gave every Indian user a free year of ChatGPT Go. www.wheresyoured.at/new…

Today’s newsletter reveals the unrestrained and wasteful token burn inside one publicly-traded company (Zillow) and breaks down the cold, hard truth that AI is - for hyperscalers, for AI labs, and for customers - simply too expensive to ever pay off. www.wheresyoured.at/ai-is-…

Every three weeks there’s a video of the CEO of Deepmind saying something insane about how we’re 5 years from AGI, and if you respond saying he sounds like an idiot someone says “umm that’s SIR Demis Hassabis? He won a Nobel peace prize?” Like you realize somebody can get that and still sound dumb

Planning the AI chapter as the conclusion for the book (Why Everything Stopped Working, penguin random house, out 2027) and it is shaping up to be so great. The AI bubble is a psy-op, a con, a drama and a dark comedy! It’s full of weird characters and freaks and a few heroes and a lot of losers.

Seeing misinformation out there saying Microsoft moved off of Claude Code because of token-based billing. This isn’t true - everyone was moved to GitHub Copilot CLI (basically GHCP Claude Code), and everyone still has access to Anthropic models, though sources hear rumors about token limits.

This week’s premium has the goofiest setup of anything I’ve ever written, based on Marvel’s classic “What If…?” Series - “What If…We’re In An AI Bubble?” An exploration of the consequences of everything I’ve been predicted, like “what if OpenAI dies?” And “what if everyone goes token-based?”
