Whatever happened to the idea of #micropayments for accessing websites? It’s not without its problems, that’s true, but surely better than the current mess of advertising, paywalls, subscriptions, and AI slop?
#AI seems to be driving everyone to distraction. AI boosters by undermining their cognitive capacities. AI critics by having to refute the nonsense put out by AI boosters. Meanwhile, the world just keeps getting hotter. 😓
Being a (co-)author means taking responsibility for, or standing behind, your work. Computer systems are incapable of doing this.* So #LLMs cannot be (co-)authors.* If that’s right, then while #GenAI use can and should be acknowledged in academic papers, their contribution isn’t one of authorship.
The #macOS27 experience is very different depending on what machine you install it on and where you are. #AppleIntelligence is available on most modern Macs, as is #SiriAI. Voice customisation, however, requires an M3 Mac or above with at least 12Gb RAM. And Siri AI isn’t available in the EU. #Apple

Curiously, I can access #SiriAI despite being in the EU as my region is set to UK. So there’s a workaround. But it’s not ideal if you don’t want UK-formatted dates. Fortunately, this is customisable via third-party apps. Along with the Siri app, Siri AI is one of the major new features in #macOS27.
