Older adults, people with accents, and people with disabilities struggle to be understood by AI agents. This affects their access to health care, transit, and other essential services. This is an existential risk for them. It is happening NOW. And it needs to be regulated.
Apparently there's a new industry of AI slop books about AI! Alexander H. Blackwell has produced 15 books between May 14th and June 4th. And Quentin G. Dalton produced the same number even more quickly, between May 8th and 28th! If only!
Focusing the media and policymakers on the existential risks of AI isn't just about distracting us from today's AI harms. It also reinforces the idea that tech CEO should guide policy, while diminishing the *experiential expertise* of everyone else who understands how AI is harming society.
Last night I spoke to an @indivisible.org group in Milford, Michigan about AI & data centers. I was gratified by how fired up this older, white crowd was about privacy and surveillance. It was clear that data center opposition is a proxy for frustration about AI and oligarchy. @mi-swim.bsky.social
