Guess what: the entire UC system is in very advanced talks to “provide” access to OpenAI and “free” (LOL) tokens to all students. Why? For what use case? Search me! “We”didn’t have enough money for one instructional computer/classroom a couple weeks ago. This deal’ll be in the hundreds of millions.

I'm going to do something I may never have done before, and share a major upside of the imposition of AI on everyone: It is uniting people from across the political spectrum, and in their local communities, to come together for collective opposition like no issue I recall in my memory. So, thanks?

I’ve been getting about two requests for PhD supervision per day lately. This is waaaaaay above average. I have an autoreply on that states that I’m not taking any new students this cycle. But a friend who is also inundated said that hers are all formatted exactly same and are obviously AI.
I continue to be fascinated and mortified by the AI results to searches on Google. I was trying to get info about writers who were staked by Substack (some of whom harassed me when I publicly talked about it). It pivoted to tell me about a CA ballot initiative.
So,uh… are we talking about OpenAI and Hugging Face or?
