one of my favorite cheeky papers, from 1999, is this one where the authors argue that sometimes it is better to simply wait and do nothing, because your astrophysical simulations will complete faster if you simply wait for the next epoch of compute arxiv.org/pdf/astro-ph...

How lucky are you to have been born when and where you are? Had Opus 4.8 in Claude Code whip up a new visualization of all humans who ever lived. In addition to being neat to try, it is an interesting test for an AI that combines research, code, design and stats together veil-…

I'm not going to respond directly to the nay-sayers, but I wrote a benchmark to test reasoning My intention was to make it falsifiable, and see how the models did at extracting a structure-preserving compression then applying it (one example then the model results) yuwakisa.co…

Recent commentary

if someone refuses to examine LLM outputs because they are LLM outputs, that would be especially damaging methodologically: you cannot investigate a novel cognitive system while declaring its observable behavior inadmissible evidence in advance

I honestly don’t think people are going to have any trouble at all finding meaning in their lives in the context of superhuman AI

Well I was fired from my job at Anthropic today. I am glad that in my time there I was able to work with such incredible people and make a contribution to this critical technology. My job was making sure /compact took at least 5 minutes to run.

10 years from now "prompting language models to write code" will be viewed as a quaint pastime for eccentrics

First programming, then math, and now shitposting. Where will AI stop

I know everyone hates Sam Altman, but he is kind of a modern Prometheus figure. He released ChatGPT, practically as the sole decision-maker, against the wishes of the board and he got fired for it (he got better) One could argue the world and ChatGPT weren't ready for each other but fuck it we ball

AI disclosure: No AI was used in the writing or thinking of this skeet but only because my CPU is saturated with AI and there's no spare capacity

One of my almost sincere conspiracy theories is that aliens quietly pointed us to LLM technology because they saw that humans were unable to self-rule

I think this must be a really bad time to be a college student. So much uncertainty in the future, and so much hostility and confusion around AI use, AI witch hunts It would be like going to cooking school and not allowed to use fire

Oh good! ChatGPT added a button to save an incognito conversation to history. So many times I started in incognito because I was too lazy to turn off the "memory" button, and then deeply regretted it because the conversation got good
